Time to Reflect

Had an absolutely fantastic time at the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art on Thursday evening where we were invited to attend the lavish awards dinner as 2011 finalists in the ‘Environment’ category of the Port of Tyne Reflect photo and film awards. This is the fifth annual Reflect Awards, which are run by the Port of Tyne to celebrate the people, places and environment of the region and attracted over 800 entries, 3,000 photos and 30 films!

The particular category we were placed in was judged by one of Britain’s most highly acclaimed designers, Wayne Hemingway MBE, co-founder of the fashion label Red or Dead. Mr Hemingway said, “The Reflect awards are a great idea to celebrate North East England and I was delighted to be asked to join the judging panel. The standard of entries was just incredible, making my job very difficult.”

Our entry ‘Take It To The Bridge’ came about after being commisioned to capture an image of Newcastle’s Quayside; in particular the famous series of dramatic bridges from an unusual perspective. After finding out about the competition, we thought this image suited the category well, so decided to submit it.

Pictured below is the image in the form of a 72″ wide canvas which adorns a bedroom wall in Stoke, serving for its proud new owner as a permanent reminder of home! We were absolutely thrilled to find out we had won an award for the image and can’t wait to submit next year’s entry into what has proven to be an absolutely fantastic competition.
